Hydroxy-functional monomers are important components of acrylic polymers and other systems because they can participate in crosslinking reactions witli isocyanates and amino-formaldehyde resins. However,there are relatively few hydroxy-functional monomers commonly available. Another approach to introducing hydroxyl groups is through the reaction of a carboxylic acid with an epoxy group,but this creates a secondary hydroxyl group.
