Scottish scientists breed sea urchins for outplanting beneath marine sea pens

Research scientists at the Ardtoe Marine Laboratory in Scotland are piloting a project that aims to commercially breed sea urchins and seaweeds for outplanting in the vicinity of marine sea cage operations. The experiment originally started as a small European research project run by the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS). But when the participating salmon farm, Loch Duart Salmon, wanted to expand into commercial production, Viking Fish Farms at Ardtoe took over.
