Effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium on fruit quality and cropping of Aligarh genotype of cape gooseberry (Physalis pemviana L.)

The experiment was conducted to find out the optimum dose of NPK for improving the fruit quality and yield of Aligarh genotype of cape gooseberry (Physalispemviana L.). It was observed that the maximum average fruit weight and the total yield per plant were achieved with nitrogen 10g/plant, phosphorus 15g/plant and potassium 10g/plant. The TSS level was found to be the maximum with nitrogen 15g/plant, phosphorus 10g/plant and potassium 10g/plant. The TSS/acid ratio followed a decreasing trend with the increasing level of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Reducing sugars increased with each increasing level of nitrogen but only to the second level of phosphorus and potassium. From the present study the inference can be drawn that nitrogen 10g/plant, phosphorus 15g/plant and potassium 10g/plant to be the adequate combination for improving the fruit quality and maximizing the yield per plant in Aligarh genotype of cape gooseberry.
