Eighteen genetically diverse parental lines Acc.ll to Acc.28 were crossed with male sterile female (MS-12) to get 18 cross combinations were raised in a randomized block design with three replications during 2009-10 at Vegetable Research Farm, PunjabAgricultural University, Ludhiana. The cross combinations Viz. MS-12 X Acc 15, MS-12 X Acc 27, MS-12 X Acc 19, MS-12 X Acc 22, MS-12 X Acc 18, MS-12 X Acc 17, MS-12 X Acc 2land MS-12 X Acc 28 which showed better performance than the mean value for yieldtraits can be commercially exploited as F, hybrids or can be used for deriving lines of better breeding value for their use in future breeding strategies of chilli. High genotypic and phenotypic coefficients of variation were noticed for yield per plantindicating maximum variability among the different genotypes and thus this trait could be utilized for selection programme. Heritability values were generally high for average fruit length and yield per plant. The average fruit length was highly significantly and positively correlated with average fruit width and yield per plant atgenotypic and phenotypic level. The average fruit length has positive direct effect on yield per plant at genotypic and phenotypic level and positive indirect effect via average fruit weight at genotypic and via average fruit width & average plant height at phenotypic level. Average fruit width has a negative direct effect at genotypic and positive direct effect at phenotypic level on yield per plant while, it has positive indirect effect via average fruit length at genotypic and phenotypic levels; via average fruit weight at genotypic and via average plant height at phenotypic level on yield per plant.
