National Power Corp. (NAPOCOR), the Philippe state electricity utility, has requested a one-year delay in its complying with the country's Clean Air Act. Under the provisions of the act, oil firms were to reduce maximum aromatics content in gasoline to 35% (down from 45%), effective Jan. 1, 2003, while also reducing benzene content by volume from 4% to 2%. The act further requires that sulfur content in gasoil be reduced from 0.2% to 0.05%, with fuel oil sulfur levels to fall from 3% to the 0.8%-1.0% range.
