Independent refiners, as well as spin-off refining businesses from US integrated oil companies continue to show flexibility in adapting to changing business environments. Helped by the shale oil boom that offers relatively inexpensive light sweet crude feeds, their earnings from the last few quarters are envied by their integrated oil counterparts and other refiners outside the US.
