LyondellBasell workers end strike at French refinery; PC plant to remain open.

The firm's 105K-b/d Berre, France refinery and petrochemicals complex began restarting units on Oct. 10 after workers agreed to end a strike that lasted nearly two weeks. The workers had begun the work stoppage on Sept. 27 after LyondellBasell announced plans to permanently close the refinery since it could not find a buyer; however, leading to the end of the strike was an agreement between the union and management that would require LyondellBasell to wait two years after idling the plant before a permanent closure could commence. "Until Dec. 2013, it will be kept ready for a restart," a union source noted.
