ON THE MORNING OF OCT. 3, a barge struck a tower that supports power cables that stretch over the shipping lanes of the Houston Ship Channel in Texas (US). The incident forced the US Coast Guard to close the channel from Oct. 3-5 while the tower was repaired; the waterway reopened to vessel traffic on Oct. 6.
