Trend reversal: 2013 US oil demand growth outpaces China.

China's significant GDP growth in recent years has pushed up its fuel consumption rate surpassing that of the US. However according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), US oil demand grew by 390K b/d last year, which is higher than the 295K b/d increase of China's implied oil demand—a figure calculated by combining refinery throughput volumes with net product import data. The trend was also reported by Reuters as the media firm calculated China's growth of 1.6% or 150K b/d. The calculations do not take into account changes in inventory levels and are based on preliminary government data for 2013, as well as unrevised figures from 2012. Nevertheless, this marks the first time US oil demand expansion has outpaced Chinese growth since 1999.
