Earlier in Dec, the US EPA announced a proposal to lower the biofuel blending rates under the 2014 RFS, with the corn-based ethanol blend requirement being reduced from 14.4B gal (343MM bbl) to 13.0B gal (310MM bbl). However, the agency has agreed to "take another look" at the proposal to reduce the blending mandates. According to Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, "They're going to reassess it. It's not a final rule, it's a proposed rule." 54 members of the House of Representatives have also sent a letter to the EPA imploring the agency to re-examine the biodiesel blending mandate saying it should be raised from 1.28B gal (30.5MM bbl) as the domestic biodiesel industry claims it can produce 1.7B gal (110.8K b/d).
