China's Ministry of Environmental Protection has announced that China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) and Sinopec Group (parent companies of top Chinese refiners PetroChina and Sinopec Corp., respectively) will once more be permitted to apply for environmental clearances, after having successfully reduced emissions over the past year. Under the ban, which had been in force for eight months, both companies had been effectively barred from undertaking any new refinery or petrochemical construction projects in consequence of poor environmental performance.
