Selected foreign country fresh strawberry exports in 1996/97 are forecast at 276,516 metric tons, 4 percent above the previous season's shipments but 7 percent below the 1994/95 record. Expanded shipments by Spain and ltaly will likely more than offset lower exports from Mexico. U.S. fresh strawberry exports were up 4 percent in calendar year 1996 based on record sales to Canada. Selected foreign country frozen strawberry exports in 1S96/97, on the other hand, are forecast to decrease 6 percent to 124,950 tons. All selected foreign countries are expected to reduce exports, except for Spain where production increased. The United States is the world's third largest exporter of frozen strawberries, after Poland and Mexico. U.S. frozen strawberry exports in 1996 were down 12 percent, based primarily on reduced sales to Japan.
