A combination of red tape and safety concerns appears to have pushed back the start date for first gas from the Chevron-operated Chuandongbei field in southwestern China to 2013 - understood to be one year later than the schedule set by partner PetroChina. The US major revealed the delay in a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in early March, in which it also pegged peak production from the field, in the Sichuan Basin, at 558 million cubic feet per day (5.77 billion cubic meters per year). PetroChina holds a nonop-erated 51% stake in the project.
