Proposals unveiled last month by Azerbaijan's state Socar and Turkey's energy ministry for a Trans-Anatolian Pipeline - or Tanap - to take Azeri gas across Turkey appear to darken the outlook for Nabucco, the EU-backed pipeline planned to run from Turkey, or even Azerbaijan itself, through to Austria.Details remain extremely sketchy, but one analyst suggests the Tanap announcement could indicate Socar is hankering for a role in the delivery of gas from Phase 2 of its Shah Deniz field further down the supply chain to Europe, rather than selling at its border.
