The flood of spot LNG arrivals into Europe continues to build with the persistence of its wide premium to US gas prices, aided by continued partial linkage to oil prices for term supply (WGI Aug.l8,p6). While UK prices and volumes look to be easing slightly, a fundamental long-term trend is clear: Qatari supply has led to the UK eclipsing France as Europe's second-largest LNG market after Spain so far in 2010, and to a more than doubling of Italian LNG imports. This despite strong recent year-on-year growth in Qatari volumes into France and Belgium, as well (WGI Jun.23,p4).
