Spain's gas demand fell by 1.4% last year, according to Spanish gas industry association Sedigas. The drop was less steep than in other major Western European markets such as the UK and Germany, largely because Spain's recession has been deeper and longer so its demand base was lower. Total domestic consumption, plus exports and transit across the Spanish gas system, reached 33.6 Bcm (393 TWh-gas) in 2014. Sedigas said the decline from 2013 was due both to warm weather and a decrease in natural gas-fueled cogeneration. Sedigas labeled 2014 the "warmest in history," with both summer and winter temperatures higher than normal in Spain.
