Belgian LNG Re-Exports Soar

Belgium's Zeebrugge terminal has seen LNG imports sag by 50% to 2 Bcm of gas in the first half of this year, due to a combination of weak European demand and high Asian prices (WGI May2' 12). By contrast, re-exports from Zeebrugge increased by a factor of 13 during the same period.Compared to one small cargo aboard Coral Methane re-exported in first half 2011, this year 13 larger ones were re-exported to South America, Spain and Japan, according to WGI estimates based on data from a mix of port websites, ship tracking and industry sources. Of the 13, Argentina's state Enarsa received three following that country's spat with Repsol over YPF. Eni received four, BP and Brazil's state-run Petrobras took two each, with Japan's Chubu Electric, and Nordic LNG one each. Re-exports are likely to gather pace through December, say traders, with South America exerting the strongest pull.
