German Shakeup Yields Results

German energy group RWE said Friday that it has given a formal undertaking to the European Commission that it will sell its 4,000 kilometer German gas transmission network to an independent operator, as originally outlined in May (WGI Jun.4,p1). Its asset accounts for about 10% of Germany's high-pressure gas grid. The commission in Brussels said it will now "market-test" RWE's offer to divest, before deciding whether to end a competition infringement probe and thus make the company's offer binding.
