Change of Season to Force Shift in US Sales

The end of the Southern Hemisphere winter means US LNG cargoes must find new homes. A total of 34 cargoes have left Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana since commercial operations began in February, with South America taking 65% of the volumes that have arrived (WGI Aug.24' 16). The main buyers have been Argentina, Brazil and Chile, although one cargo found its way to the Dominican Republic. But with most of Latin America now enjoying warmer spring weather, regional demand for gas imports has sunk: Indeed, Argentina recently delayed three cargoes into 2017 and cancelled a fourth after contracting too much gas (WGI Sep.14'16).
