UK LNG Imports Drop by Half

A combination of low domestic demand, ample pipeline shipments from Norway and supplier diversions to Asia left UK LNG imports crashing 50% year-on-year to 10.44 billion cubic meters in the first nine months of 2012, and import terminals running at little more than a seventh of their overall capacity. This compared with 20.97 Bcm in the same period of 2011, and 24.2 Bcm over the full year, up 36% from 2010. If the trend continues, WGI reckons UK LNG imports this year could total just 12 Bcm, based on data from port websites, ship tracking and industry sources.
