Europe's major gas and power utilities are looking to raise their upstream exposure, with significant moves announced recently by Italy's Edison, which is jointly controlled by French power giant EDF and Italian utility A2A, as well as by German companies Bayerngas and BASF-owned Wintershall, and by French GDF Suez.
