More than a heat wave may lie behind the late-July,early-August resurgence in US gas prices.When gas this spring fell into the 6 per million Btu range or lower,it suddenly started to look like an affordable option relative to coal for power generators in the US for the first time in ages,helping send coal stockpiles at electric utilities climbing toward their highest levels since mid-2003 and leading to an unprecedented summer withdrawal of gas from storage (WGI Aug.2,p6).
