The Italian and Greek governments signed a protocol of intent in Athens last week aimed at giving a supporting shove to the "Interconnector Greece-Italy" sub-sea pipeline project to link the two countries,first mooted in 2002 and now more actively backed by Italy's Edison and Greek state-run Depa.The 800 kilometer,8 billion cubic meter per year(774 million cubic foot per day)pipe could enter service in 2010,Edison said.Three quarters of its length would be built by Depa inside Greece,with the final 200 km,running from the Greek coast to Puglia in southeast Italy,to be built by a Depa-Edison joint venture dubbed Poseidon,in which Turkish state Betas and other investors might eventually participate.
