Big Business has always been concerned about energy costs. Alongside labor and raw materials, the costs of energy — especially electricity — can eat into profits and make foreign rivals more competitive. Companies are also under increasing pressure to demonstrate their environmental credentials, particularly to younger consumers. And with renewables more competitive as costs come down, and with UN climate talks in Paris later this year focusing corporate minds on how best to handle the transition to a lower carbon world, more of the world's biggest listed firms are making boardroom-level decisions to get their energy from greener sources.
