Floundering Venezuela To Import More Gas

In a sign of the ongoing troubles in Venezuela's natural gas sector, state giant Petroleos de Venezuela (PDV) is understood to be negotiating with Colombia's state-controlled Ecopetrol for another extension of its contract to import gas from Colombia. It has also gone remarkably quiet on its once-ambitious LNG export plans — including construction of a 4.8 million ton per year plant in northeastern Venezuela — which, given the problems, are clearly not in the cards anytime soon.
