Northeast Asian LNG imports from Nigeria tanked over the summer as a result of a 22-day port blockade and month-long force majeure on exports from Nigeria LNG (NLNG). The blockade began in late June, triggered by a tax dispute with local maritime agency Nimasa, and cut Nigerian LNG exports to Northeast Asia to just 317,000 tons in July, 62% lower than the 834,000 tons registered in July 2012. Exports in June crashed 34% year-on-year to 424,000 tons, down from 638,000 tons the year before, because of the force majeure from May 15 to Jun. 10, which was caused by a gas pipeline leak (WGI Jun.5'13).
