Egyptian officials are hoping that power demand will have subsided enough by October to allow LNG exports to ramp up in the fourth quarter. Without a significant improvement, WGI calculates that full-year exports will likely reach just 2.8 million-3.1 million tons, or around a quarter of Egypt's nominal liquefaction facility. "We will try as soon as we can," Sherif Sousa, undersecretary for gas affairs at Egypt's petroleum ministry, tells WGI. He says hot summer weather triggered dramatic increases in electricity use, and thus demand for gas as a generation fuel, but that volumes dedicated to exports should increase by the winter.
