Turkey Moves Closer to KRG Gas Imports

Turkey seems to be moving forward with plans to import gas from Iraq's semiautono-mous Kurdistan region. While some Turkish government officials remain concerned about the legalities of direct gas exports from the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) to and via Turkey — beyond Iraqi central government control — the price could be too attractive to ignore. The KRG has said it may sell the gas for $200-$250 per thousand cubic meters ($5.55-$6.94 per million Btu) — well below what Turkey now pays for pipeline imports from Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan.
