People pay more and more attention to the coupling relation between ground and air. In seismogenic process, thermal anomaly and temperature redistribution are generated not only in source region but also in its surrounding areas. This causes various thermal effects in the crust, and geothermal precursory anomaly of earthquake may be observed. This kind of thermal anomaly provides important information for earthquake predictions. Fu Chengyi put forward a "reddening-swelling" hypothesis in 1971; Geng studied medium-term prediction of strong earthquakes by using relation between drought and earthquake; Fu Zizhong and others did research work on short-term and impending earthquake prediction by using dynamic observation of ground temperature in the 1980s. In recent years, Qiang et al. made some short-term and impending earthquake predictions with satellite thermal infrared anomaly. All these have shown that studying earthquake prediction through geothermal anomaly is an effective way. Based on the above understanding, we use thermal infrared anomaly obtained from NOAA Satellite to study and analyze strong earthquakes occurring in Xinjiang and its adjacent areas in recent years. We try to find some characteristics of the rektion between strong earthquakes and thermal infrared anomaly, and try to add a new method for earthquake prediction.
