Productivity of organic farming as compared to high tech agriculture was investigated. Effects of a new composite organic manure containing 12 organic ingredients, including compost, vermicompost, poultry manure, neem cake, mustard cake, fungal (Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma harzianum) and bacterial (Pseudomonas fluorescence, P. aeruginosa) strains, banana peel powder, coriander powder and pomegranate peel powder, on wheat crop production were determined and compared with effects of inorganic manure, with special reference to yield and phenolic acid contents in wheat grains. HPLC analysis revealed that the organically grown wheat had several times more phenolic acids, particularly tannic, gallic, caffeic and ferulic acids, than the inorganically grown wheat crop. Yield was also higher in organically grown wheat plots than in the inorganically grown field. Phenolic acid contents were correlated with human health. Results suggested that organic farming can be easily adopted for higher yield, medicinal and nutritional values for human health, ecological safety and soil improvement.
