Growing Without Borders: A Modest Proposal For Improving Agricultural Science

IN MY last "Growing Without Borders" column, I argued the need to restore respect for science. I also argued that the agricultural science establishment may have been contributing to the recent loss of respect.In the spirit of my esteemed fellow countryman, Jonathan Swift, I have a modest proposal for improving the productivity of agricultural research in the nation's land grant universities. No, I will not be advocating as Dean Swift did with tongue in cheek, that to relieve poverty and hunger in 18th century Ireland, the Irish eat their own children.
