Gordon Rumble loves pruning. Loves it so much, in fact, that even though his family has been farming in California's San Joaquin Valley since 1905, Rumble opted out of the family business. He still has 100 acres of almonds, but decided not to becomea full-time grower because there just wasn't enough pruning involved. Oh, there's no denying that the land costs had something to do with it, but really, the man just loves to prune the autumn and winter away. "You either like pruning or you don't," saysRumble with a grin, glancing up at his pruning crew in an almond orchard not far from the home base of his company, R&R Custom Farming, in Salida, CA. "I love it. When one of the guys gets sick or hurt, I jump right in."
