Technology: what's ahead

Growers attending this year's Washington Hort Show will gain some insight into what's next in technology and its impacts on the tree fruit industry. The keynote Batjer Memorial speaker at the Washington State Horticultural Association's 2003 Annual Meeting and Trade Show is a consultant recognized for his creativity and insight into strategic applications of information technology in agriculture. Marc Vanacht, who is also fluent in five languages, is an expert in precision agriculture, the implementation of GPS, CIS, mobile computing, the Internet, intranets, strategic databases, and remote sensing. Vanacht's talk is titled "Can High-Tech Save The Washington Tree Fruit Industry?" Western Fruit Grower contacted Vanacht, who provided the following preview for his talk at the show, which will be held Dec. 1-3 at the Wenatchee Convention Center.
