Concern about the safety of power tools has been heightened by renewed warnings that unapproved power tools are being offered for sale to people working on construction sites.Power tool safety is a constant concern in Western Australia, a state that has Australia's highest incidence of accidental electrical fatalities -3.2 per million population in 1999/2000, according to figures published by Victoria's Office of the Chief Electrical Inspector. The type of tools being offered for sale include hammer drills, sanders, jigsaws and drills. According to Ian Graham, the Chief Electrical Inspector for Victoria, they are being offered for sale with power tool carry cases and marked with well-known trade names. The cases may be marked with a voltage or voltage range that does not include 240v or have different flexible cords or European plugs, which are not acceptable in Australia.
