Once a year, representatives from the U.K. wire industry visit WAI headquarters to renew a more than half-century old tradition: the winding of the clock. "The reason for the clock is very important, and with the passage of time it still seems very important," said Alan Stephenson, general manager of Bridon Ropes Ltd. (U.K.), who spoke in the lobby to invited guests and staff before winding the clock. The annual event stems from the 1948 presentation of the grandfather's clock by 32 representatives of the U.K. wiredrawing industry to the association as thanks for the help provided by the U.S. in World War II. The audience included WAI President Scott Higgins; who welcomed visitors and introduced Stephenson; WAI First Vice President David Richards; past WAI President David Stecker; WAI Electrical Management Committee Chairman Ron Reed; and WAI Board members Tom Siedlarz and Brian Bouvier. Also in attendance were Ron Whiteman, post chaplain for VFW Post 7666; Larry Santamaria, post commander for VFW Post 7666; and Rev. Brad Locke.
