Cold pressure welding is popular with wire and cable manufacturers because of the speed, reliability and cost-effectiveness of the process, which creates a permanent bond stronger than the parent materials without the use of heat, flux or filler. Compared with electrical welding, cold pressure also provides manufacturers with a "greener," cleaner and safer method of joining nonferrous wire and strip. Because cold welding takes place at ambient temperatures, no thermal changes occur in the materials being welded. No dangerous or unpleasant fumes are generated and there is no risk of burning or splattering, any of which can endanger the health of the operator. Even materials such as cadmium, which emits toxic fumes when subjected to heat, can be joined safely and satisfactorily with cold pressure.
