摘要

This paper suggests an approach to a convincing design method for control of sericial soil erosion by using Jete Geotextiles (JGT). The. approach can tie extended to other natural geotextiles as well.Erosion of soil particles is caused principally as a result of the vulnerability of soil particles to erosive forces. Precipitation-induced surface soil erosion is caused as a result of kinetic energy of rain drops. Surface soil particles are disintegrated as a result and get carried away by the resultant overland flow. Reduction of velocity of the overland flow and entrapment of detached soil particles are understandably two critical fiinctions that a geotextile should perform to reduce the effects andseverity of erosion of soil on surface. Man-made geotextiles are too thin to be of any significance in either reducing the velocity of the surface run-off or in entrapping the eroded particles. It stands to reason that the cover should have sufficient thickness to achieve this objective. As the matter stands now, natural geotextiles such as jute could be a better alternative to man-made geotextiles for control of surficial soil erosion.
