Restructuring of hard coal industry in the Federal Republic of Germany

Restructuring of hard coal industry in the Federal Republic of Germany -has been carried out for a very long time. The process was complex both with regard to reduction of production capacity as well as employment downsizing. Whereas the restructuring of brown coal industry at the terrain of the ex-GDR was a very violent one in the nineties of the past century. It consisted in mass redundancies and very meaningful reduction of production capacity. The article describes briefly the history of changes in German coal industry. Institution responsible for restructuring was presented and more important decision regarding the financing of restructuring by a public aid and accepted by the European Commission.
