REHABILITATION AND RESETTLEMENT OF PROJECT AFFECTED FAMILIES IN INDIRA SAGAR PROJECT OF MADHYA PRADESH ON NARMADA RIVER

It is universally accepted fact that hydroelectricity is the cheapest and non polluting source of energy. So, every state and every country wants to harness their water resources for generation of electricity to meet their power demand. The biggest hindrance in the path of this energy is rehabilitation and resettlement of people, who are being affected due to submergence in the reservoirs of such hydroelectric projects. The rehabilitation and resettlement of project affected people is a very sensitive subject and needs to be handled very carefully and with utmost human angle. In mega projects like Indira Sagar project in Madhya Pradesh, the issue of rehabilitation and resettlement becomes still more sensitive and serious because the number of people involved in this process is quite high. In a democratic country like India and in the present age of human rights and transparency, this job needs to be handled very delicately.
