Application of friction stir welding to the car body

The application of FSW is progressing rapidly in the shipbuilding, aerospace and automobile fields because, unlike conventional fusion welding, no blowholes or cracking occur and distortion is small but joint strength is still high. However, the application to the aluminium body has not progressed because it is difficult to apply to the welding of two and three dimensional joints. Thinking of the high potential of FSW, it is expected to expand its applications from the components required to have high quality welded joints to the products related to automobiles. Also, through the development of FSW robots, it is predicted to be applied to aluminium bodies.
