The 1 st reporting this series profiles solidification phenomena of weld metals in relation to characteristic solidification morphologies, microstructures and solidification theory. The 2nd report discusses Microsegregation behaviour and its modelling. The 3rd report focuses on fundamental aspects of the solidification cracking mechanism and cracking susceptibility. This latter paper will have served its purpose through contributing to an understanding of solidification phenomena and the solidification cracking mechanism.
