摘要

Some insiders say the Obama administration may be getting closer to lifting its moratorium on deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. New rules designed to improve safety and equipment on offshore drilling rigs were announced early in October. However, the Interior Department was quick to say it was not yet ready to lift a temporary ban on deepwater drilling. The new rules for offshore drilling are being considered by Congress and the Department of the Interior. The mandates were set into the Federal Register on October 11. For operators doing business in the Gulf of Mexico the regulations will lead to higher costs for every offshore well drilled.
