Colorado Regulators File Lawsuit City of longmont Disregards State's Authority on Drilling Rules

In an unusual move, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation sued the city of Longmont, Colorado saying they stepped out of bounds when the City Council passed new drilling rules. Assistant Attorney General Jake Matter said the regulations are meant to be governed and enforced by the state and not at the city level. The case was filed in Boulder County on July 30, thirteen days after the Longmont City Council passed the regulations. The lawsuit was filed the same day the rules went into effect.
