In this paper, some of the FSW technologies and equipments are introduced so as to discuss the capability of the process for automotive industries. Resent R&D status of welding technologies and equipment are discussed. According to the fundamental coupon tests, weld qualities such as mechanical, metallurgical and chemical properties have been studied for aluminum alloys. Furthermore, the varieties of FSW equipments have been also developed not only for R&D but also for production.
