摘要

While prior research has established the increased risk of pneumonia in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) taking inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs), the relationship between other significant pulmonary infections, such as tuberculosis (TB) and influenza, and ICS use has not been clearly described. In this systematic review, two independent investigators performed a comprehensive search of multiple literature databases, as well as unpublished research, to identify 25 randomized controlled trials of ICS vs. non-ICS medical management of patients with COPD. They performed a meta-analysis to examine the relationship between ICS use and the incidence of TB and influenza in these patients in both endemic and nonendemic areas.
