Linear motors experience an increasing spread in many fields of engineering. In contrast toconventional feed drive systems they offer a lot of advantages, such as high dynamics, low frictionand simple design. Typically, linear motors are used in conventional machine tools. At the FraunhoferIPT an examination is performed in order to test the suitability of linear motors for their use in UP-machines.
