Twenty years after South Canyon and one year after Yarnell Hill, a team of firefighting experts propose major changes to save firefighter livesOn the sad occasion this summer of the twin anniversaries of 14 firefighter deaths at the 1994 South Canyon Fire in Colorado and 19 firefighter deaths at the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona, a group of retired wildland firefighters are calling for immediate changes to prevent additional firefighter deaths.This group of five firefighters, operating under the name Safety Matters, has spent the last year studying wildland firefighter fatalities of the last 20 years.
