Modeling of dissolved and particle-bound pollutants in urban street runoff

In order to develop water quality models of urban street runoff we evaluated runoff data of inorganic and organic pollutants collected in past studies. Most pollutants were quantified separately regarding particle-bound and dissolved forms. The findings of regression analysis demonstrate, that runoff parameters like total runoff and antecedent dry period are appropriate surrogate parameters to evaluate loads of dissolved and particle-bound heavy metals. The modeling of dissolved pollutants (heavy metals, macro ions) yields equations connecting runoff parameters, which are capable to approximate chemographs of conductivity and dissolved heavy metals. Our data base does not meet the requirements for modeling the chemographs of particle-bound pollutants. However, we can duplicate the chemical processes like adsorption or partitioning between the liquid and the particulate phase.
