Last July we were fortunate in having three members of the Australian MGA talk to us at the Summer Seminar in Stratford-upon-Avon. Greg Seymour's and Michael Brownlee's contributions have already been briefly touched upon in previous editions of Mushroom Journal. The third speaker was Glen Cardwell. Glen runs his own nutrition consultancy company and has been the nutrition adviser to the Australian MGA since 2004. The fact that the AMGA employ someone of this stature and experience is impressive in its own right and something we should surely emulate. His role is to advise the AMGA on 'health positioning' for mushrooms, to provide the experience and information that would enable the benefits to health and longevity by eating mushrooms to be promoted and exploited. His starting point in the first of the two presentations was to highlight some common misconceptions before exploring some of the health implications of diet, concluding with the specific issues relating to mushrooms.
