Silicon is one of essential elements for rice growth. Deficiency of silicon in plants would affect the physiological metabolism of rice. Considering the important role of silicon to rice and no silicon being used in ordinary anther culture medium, weadded absorbable silicon at different concentrations into either or both induction media (IM), differentiation media (DM) to study the effect of silicon on anther culture efficiency. Na_2SiO_3 was added to the media (1 mg Si/L is equivalent to the amountof 1 mg SiO_2/L). Six treatments in the experiment were adopted: 1) A_1B_1, no silicon (CK); 2) A_2B_1, added 60 mg Si/L to IM; 3) A_3B_1, added 120 mg Si/L to IM; 4) A_1B_2, added 60 mg Si/L to DM; 5) A_2B_2, added 60 mg Si/L to both IM and DM; 6) A_3B_2, added 120 mg Si/L to IM and 60 mg Si/L to DM.
